Keep It Clean When Cutting Flowers

When cutting flowers from the garden, be sanitary to prolong the life of the cut flowers and to avoid possibly transferring diseases and viruses from one plant to another. Do this by wiping the blade of your knife or scissors with an antibacterial wipe between cuts. Soil and air-borne pathogens aren’t likely to be spread by pruning tools. Diseases that attack the plant’s vascular system or form cankers are the ones to look out for. Bring a water bucket with you in which to carry your flowers as you cut them. Remove low leaves that would be under water in the bucket and, later, the vase. Clean your flower-harvesting bucket after use with any household disinfectant cleaner or wipe it with antibacterial wipes.
