Botanical name: Daphne cneorum ‘Ruby Glow’
Virtues: Fairly early to flower, with a wonderful scent that can be smelled all over the garden. One of the dwarf daphnes, it is small in size. Several planted together can serve as a groundcover. Deer resistant.
Foliage: Narrow and evergreen.
Flower: Small and bright pink, appearing in early to middle spring, with a lovely strong fragrance. Can bloom sporadically through the summer.
Habit: Small shrub, about 1 foot tall and 2 to 4 feet wide, with slightly arching stems coming from a central taproot.
Season: Spring, for flowers.
Origin: Europe.
Cultivation: Grow in humus-rich soil with very good drainage. Prefers full sun to part shade. Mulch around the plant to preserve moisture and keep roots shaded and cool. Prune lightly annually to maintain bushy shape. USDA Zones 4–9
