Founded in 1892, the American Rose Society (ARS) is an educational nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to the cultivation and enjoyment of the rose, America’s Floral Emblem. The ARS offers free rose-growing advice from Consulting Rosarians (rose experts who assist other rose growers with their rose problems and questions) and publishes an award-winning bi-monthly magazine full of information on all aspects of rose growing.
Approximately 400 local chapters and affiliates throughout the country offer rose-related activities from seminars to rose shows. Most ARS members are home gardeners who enjoy growing roses and want to expand their knowledge of rose culture. Many members also enjoy the thrill of exhibiting their roses in competition with other rose lovers or participating in photography contests and other rose-related activities.
The American Rose Society is headquartered in Shreveport, La., at the Gardens of the American Rose Center, the largest park dedicated to roses in the United States. It is home to more than 20,000 rosebushes of approximately 400 varieties of modern and old garden roses.
