Reader Tip: Freezing Garden Peas

The best way to freeze homegrown peas. Quick, easy and tasty!

We shell our peas and put them in a pillowcase in the freezer. We do not wash them first, because that would cause them to stick together and/or lose some flavor. When we want some peas, we open the pillowcase and take out a few. It’s easy since they haven’t frozen into a block. They taste as if they were just picked. Blanched ones do not! I understand blanching works for other green veggies, but peas and beans are what I freeze. Sure makes it simpler and more efficient, and the peas taste so much better.
