Fignomenal Dwarf Fig Tree Is Perfect for Container Gardening

This dwarf fig tree is easy to winter indoors

Fignomenal fig is a dwarf fig tree whose two-foot mature size makes it an ideal fig for growing in containers. Kept it in a pot, this makes it easy to move indoors for winter where the plant is not hardy. Despite its small size, Fignomenal produces many fruits.

Botanical name: Ficus carica ‘PT-DF-14’

Exposure: Full sun

Fruit: The figs ripen to dark brown with pink-red flesh and a sweet flavor. Fignomenal is capable of producing figs year-round, even indoors. This is a self-fertile fig tree, meaning that it does not need pollination from a second variety to produce fruit.

Habit:
A true dwarf fig tree, Fignomenal grows just 28 inches tall and wide, with a mounding habit.

Origin: Ficus carica is native to the Mediterranean region. In 2023 Monrovia introduced the cultivar Fignomenal ('PT-DF-14') to the gardening market.

Dwarf fig tree care

Any fig tree needs full sun, good drainage, even watering and rich soil. They can be kept drier in fall and winter. Increase watering when the plant enters active growth in spring. Also apply a slow-release fertilizer in spring. Thanks to its small size, Fignomenal dwarf fig tree does not require pruning and it can be kept in a container.

This plant is hardy in USDA Zones 7 through 9. If grown in the ground in Zone 7, it will benefit from a winter mulch to protect the roots. In Zone 7 and colder zones, container-grown Fignomenal fig trees should be wintered in a sunny indoor space.
