Plant name: Ozark witch hazelBotanical name: Hamamelis vernalis Virtues: Early bloom time (January to March). Fragrant flowers. Adaptable, hardy and easy to grow. Flowers: Appear in clusters, usually colored yellow with reddish interiors. Fragrant. Blooms over 4 weeks, beginning in January or February in most areas. The flowers are smaller than those of other witch hazels, but they appear in profusion. Foliage: Deciduous. Turns yellow in fall. Habit: Rounded shrub, 6 to 10 feet tall and slightly wider. Season: Winter for flowers; fall for foliage. Origin: Southern and central United States. Cultivation: Plant in average well-drained soil. Takes full sun or part shade, but blooms best with full sun.
